Passau to Salzburg via Braunau

Yesterday morning horse and I crossed the border to Austria in thick early morning fog. We followed the Inn River all day climbing and descending on what seemed to be a roller coaster. Today from Braunau to Salzburg was much prettier. We had three big climbs but they were all in the morning (that’s when horse is at his best) and the grades were mostly reasonable . We followed the Salzach River all day today and it wasn beautiful.

My first indication that I’m going in the right direction. Euro velo 7 is my route to Salzburg. {CAPTION}

A beautiful day to be on a bike 🚴🏻. {CAPTION}

The mighty Salzach River. {CAPTION}

Beautiful little villages (with bakeries 🧁). {CAPTION}

I met this gentleman trail side. He didn’t have much to say. {CAPTION}

The Salzach river (right) and Saalach river join forces here. And my first good view of the Austrian Alps. They look mighty big from here {CAPTION}

  1. Your trip looks just wonderful! So fun how you met some folks on the trail just like we met 10 years ago on the northern tier 🙂

    The cultural aspect looks like so much fun too and it doesn’t even look like it came at the cost stunning scenery!

  2. I have been using Google maps to find the approximate details of your route. The route they are suggesting looks different from your map and includes a short train ride. I will be watching to see where you go. Some huge differences in difficulty depending on the route. No matter what, no more ‘gradual’ river following. You and Horse stay healthy.
