June 15

Winchester Idaho to Kaniah Idaho. 45 miles. 601 miles from the Pacific. Went for a hike in the park and got a later start on the road. My energy was low all morning. Maybe it was from the big climb yesterday, or from lack of sleep at the camp site where everyone had a barking dog or two.
My first good view of the Rocky Mountains as I headed east on hwy 95. They are beautiful snow capped peaks. I was singing America the beautiful no one could hear but a few cows and horses. More cannolla fields in full yellow blooms that fill the air with a flowery smell. The afternoon was a long nine mile down mountain run. I was still feeling burt out, so I stopped for a nap under a shade tree. I limped into town and got some ice cream and a hotel room. I think I need a big bowl of pasta and soft bed. The weather has been sunny and warm and great for biking. I have lot to be grateful for as I think about fathers day tomorrow. Take care.

  1. Happy Fathers day Mike! Take some down time enjoy the views with a great danish. You’re looking good :->) I’ll be showing grandpa your blog this morning, he’ll probably want to write you a letter … I’ll advise where to pick it up in route.

  3. Rob told me about your trip yesterday. I’m impressed. Be safe. Take care of yourself. I’ll be checking in on you every day.

  4. Happy Father’s Day Mike! I heard about your grand adventure shortly after you started and have been frequently smiling at the thought ever since then. We caught up with Travis on a ride Saturday and he forwarded your link. Thanks for sharing the experiences, I would like to be able to follow your trail in about a decade. Wishing you all the best and look forward to connecting soon!

  5. Shammoo,
WOW! what a impressive challenge to take on!
I do know for a fact that you will take on this challenge “full steam ahead” and accomplish it as others in the past.
Stay safe and keep peddling my friend.

  7. Wow, Mike, what a trip! We’re having fun following you and the beautiful scenery. You look great, too, must be doing everything right. We’ll have some rhubarb treats ready when you come through here. Safe travels! Julie

  8. Hi Mike! Hang in there- I’m faithfully reading ever post and viewing each beautiful photo. Maybe take a couple days “off” in a nice little town, see the local sites, and chill. Your energy will come back in droves. . . You’re really making some great progress- wow 600 miles already. I biked 10 on Sunday and that was about enough. . .

  9. Sounds like adventure defines your trip across our beautiful country. Sending you warm wishes and sighs cause missing you.

Our winery is licensed (big yeah) so busy in vineyard etc but that is good.

New pool opens July 1st at PAC and I can experience zip line for first time so wish me luck!

    Write back

    Love Peggy

  10. Mike, Little did we know that one of Dave’s biking friends who stayed in our home enroute to a much smaller biking adventure would one day tackle such a grand adventure! Stay safe and enjoy the dream, the older Horneck’s.
